Publishing with AJHP: A step-by-step process
Step 1: Select
a topic.
This can be a
topic that has not been widely published or it can
be a topic that has been widely published for
which there is new information.
Step 2:
(Optional) Call AJHP and speak with an editor.
Ask an editor if the
topic that the author has selected to pursue is of
interest to AJHP.
Step 3:
(Optional) Prepare an outline and send it to the AJHP
editors for review.
AJHP
editors are eager to review an outline or draft of
papers in order to provide advice on making them
better prior to submission.
Step 4: Submit
paper to AJHP.
The Procedures
for submission for authors can be found in the
January 1, 2002 issue of AJHP or on the
ASHP Web site at www.ashp.org.
Once an author
has submitted a paper, one of the AJHP
editors will be assigned to guide it (and the
author) through the publishing process.
Step 5: Paper
is peer-reviewed and reviewers’ comments are
submitted to AJHP.
Peer reviewers
are volunteers with expertise in particular areas
of pharmacy practice, research, etc. We have
internal peer reviewers at ASHP, but use external
reviewers most of the time.
Step 6: The
decision is made to pursue a paper for publication.
Revisions to the
paper are requested at this point. The author will
receive reviewers comments, as well as the editors
comments, on how to make the paper better.
Step 7:
Revised paper is submitted.
Step 8: Paper
is accepted or declined for publication.
Step 9: Paper
is edited for content, grammar, and AJHP style
and placed into galleys.
Step 10:
Author receives galleys to review and make necessary
changes.
Step 11:
Galleys are returned, proofed, and put into final
production.
Step 12: Final
pages of the issue are circulated to editors and
production staff for last minute changes.
Step 13: Issue
is sent to the printer for printing and binding.
Step 14: AJHP
is mailed to ASHP members and AJHP subscribers.
