UK: A website has been set up by the Concordance Coordinating Group, established by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain to stimulate further research and debate about concordance and to provide a source of authoritative information relevant to concordance for academics, healthcare professionals, patients and the general public.
The term "Concordance" is defined as :
'A new approach to the prescribing and taking of medicines. It is an agreement reached after negotiation between a patient and a health care professional that respects the beliefs and the wishes of the patient in determining whether, when and how medicines are to be taken. Although reciprocal, this is an alliance in which the health care professionals recognize the patients' decisions about taking the recommended medications.'
Canada: According to a recent national survey, at least 85% of the Canadian public still regards the federal government as being responsible for maintaining the national health care system, which is a build-up of provincial plans under the Medicare umbrella. Canadians are strongly against the implementation of proposed changes to the program which would decrease services and increase fees, although these changes would constitute an attempt to maintain the program's financial stability. By a 57% to a 40% majority, Canadians are also opposed to requiring that people who are more secure financially should contribute to their health care costs.
